Hello there! Welcome to my little corner of the internet. I’m Shauna, a physiotherapist and mum by day and a blogger by night, living in the Wiltshire. This blog is a reflection of my journey through motherhood, marriage, military life, Furmotherhood, and the mainly my sons journey with glue ear/Speech delay. Here’s a bit about me and what you can expect to find as you navigate through my posts.
Our family
I am mummy to 2 kids, my son who is 4 and a half years old and my daughter who is 1 year old. I married my husband in 2019 in lovely Oxwich Bay, we then quickly had my son 1 year later. We also have 2 furbabies; Pearly who is a sheprador and Skye our lovely kitten. We live on a military barracks as my husband has been in the army for many years. Our extended family live quite far away from us but we have built up friendships that offer us support close by.
My Sons Journey
This is just a brief summary of my son’s journey so far as I will go into more depth in future posts. My son was born in February 2020 just before the Corona virus lockdown part 1. He was quickly diagnosed with diary allergy and reflux and put on prescription formula and medications. He was referred to ENT due to problems with reflux, gagging, swallowing and had a hearing test which diagnosed him with glue ear. He then went onto have hearing aids fitted and then grommets in 2023. He was consequently diagnosed with moderate communication and social difficulties during this time and given extra support from health professionals whilst at Nursery. We recently received his EHCP ready to start school in September (WHAT!) and continue to navigate his needs on a daily basis. He is on the list for an autism assessment, more on this in a future post. He is a beautiful boy inside and out and I wouldn’t change him for the world.
My Passions and profession
I qualified as a physiotherapist back in 2013 and have done all sorts of therapy since then. I now work from home for a big company and love my work. My passion is reading and writing. I love to research and read about different peoples accounts in life as well as some fiction books but I tends to prefer factual medical information (I know GEEK). I also have some neurodivergent quirks (don’t we all) that I will get into on another blog post.
This Blog
I started this blog as a way to document my thoughts, share my experiences, and connect with like-minded individuals. Here, you’ll find a mix of insights into my sons journey, how I continue to navigate through that journey and some rare emotions around that and also my opinions on SEN life in society. My goal is to create a space where I can offload my emotions, thoughts and experiences, that may help others going through a similar journey. Hopefully we can learn from each other, find inspiration, and maybe even spark a few conversations.
